Why an owl?

Owiwi means “owl”

In Yoruba, òwìwí is the owl – the quiet watcher of the night, long linked with wisdom. Our owl reads by lamplight so that stories are never lost: folktales told under moonlight, novels from Lagos and Nairobi, poetry from Accra, memoirs from the diaspora.

We built Owiwi Reads because African writers deserve a platform made for them – one that takes Naira as easily as Dollars or Pounds, pays fairly, and puts their books in front of readers everywhere. And because readers deserve books they truly own.
